City Lights

by Mark Mangum
How I long to be out under a blanket of stars
Where the full moon casts a glow on this trail I have chosen to take
Where I can drown in a sky untamed by the desperate city lights
Those florescent bulbs that drain the beauty of you
Of this sunset
And the sunrise after
How many moment have I spent here?
And how much more will I spend waiting for you to return to me
To this field
This couch where we first kissed
To drive me mad within your sweet embrace
When I feel your lips on mine it sends me reeling
Into the darkness of this path
And we are left to each other
Where the touch of the city can’t reach us any longer
The beauty of it all is that the city lights have all burned out
