The Hands That Touch You

by Mark Mangum
Those with which you have associated yourself with
Leech away everything that is you
And everything you despise about them you have become.
Because of the hands that touch you
You are no longer yourself
You are the empty shell that they have left behind.
You walk about zombie like
And rely solely on those who are still whole
In turn, you begin to drain them dry of all the things that they are
All the while using the excuse
“I only ask of you what I would do for you if this situation were all turned around”
By doing this you begin to create,
In those you say you love,
All the things you despise.
When all you need to do is look inside,
And see that you only despise yourself,
And the hands that touch you.
