Almost Sorrow

by Mark Mangum
You are your own greatest enemy
And your worst lover
The time is near
As the cards read that night
You have seduced yourself into believing we are
Something we are not
And never will be
You have stepped up to the plate
As the good friend, that would take my place
Who would have thought you would be screwing yourself?
What a twisted way to think
Your own arrogance has created for you
The only true love you will ever have or need
And that is yourself
This has been at the expense of everything
Including our friendship
And your social recognition
Was it worth it in the end?
I am almost sorry for your losses
But cannot bring myself to care
So keep in mind all the things I have said
For you have nothing over me
I know where I go from here
And I will only always have
Almost sorrow
